A dancer's emotional health is as important as physical health. Mindset, encouraging others, celebrating accomplishments, setting goals, time management, and fun are a part of our competition program. Competition dancers are encouraged to help set the environment. We don't all have to be besties, but we have to be respectful and inclusive.
TRYOUTS
Competition Tryouts happen once a year in the spring. Dancers are not guaranteed a spot on a team. If your child is interested in competing but is not quite ready, they should take Tap/Jazz, Ballet, Acro, and Technique the next dance season. Skill development takes time and persistence. The dancers that compete should maintain a good attitude, enjoy being a part of a team, work hard, and have fun. At Let's Dance Studio we give attention to every dancer whether they dance recreationally or competitively. Dancers who do not make a team are encouraged and welcome to take all other classes mentioned above to build skills and technique. There is no easy way to acquire the skills and technique outside of hard work and persistence. The instructors are here to guide and encourage all dancers.

There is no preparation for the skill-testing portion.
Location: Let's Dance Studio
Requirements: Dancers will learn a routine from a CLI Studios video. CLI Studios is a subscription that our studio subscribes to. Contact Dara at letsdancestudiowarroad@hotmail.com to get the video login info. There are two videos this year for Ruby up to Diamond Elite. One is a jazz combination. The other is a ballet combination. Gems will have one dance to learn.
Cost: $65 for Tryout classes and judges fees.
Keep in mind some dancers like to compete and some do not. We have many dancers that take multiple classes per week and never compete. They just love to dance and love to perform. Also, consider if your dancer is ready for the time commitment. Gems will dance 3-4 days a week, Ruby 4 days a week, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, and Diamond Elite dance 5 days a week.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
We expect our dancers to arrive on time for class, prepared, and ready to dance. Leaving early will count as a partial absence. We expect a teachable attitude, ready to learn, and grow in each class.
Be prepared for the extra commitment that competition requires. If you know in advance that your dancer will be overcommitted, consider either taking the recreational classes or alleviating their commitments elsewhere in order to make it to class. Team accountability ensures the team grows together in each class.
Dancers get 1 free class per genre (Jazz/Tap, Acro, Ballet, Competition, and technique) that they will not have to make up. Having an appointment or being sick are excused. Let Desi, Hannah, or Dara know if your dancer will not be in class.
We know that time and attention produces skill, confidence, and builds perseverance. Dance is as much an individual sport as it is a group sport. The goal for makeup classes is to get the hours in so that skills can be developed. It is an opportunity. Commitment and consistency are the most important elements when it comes to improvement. Having the opportunity to makeup classes will eliminate stress from school responsibilities and give dancers opportunities to catch up on school work, go to birthday parties, etc.
Class makeup is done through the CLI program for Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, and Diamond Elite. Class makeup for Gems will be done by taking the full Technique class on Wednesdays, which is right after the Gems competition class. Dancers can also take an extra acro class either above their level or below their level.
CLI Studios:
Let's Dance Studio has invested in online classes through CLI Studios. These classes are taught by professionals working in the dance field. I am very excited about this opportunity as it will give students a more expansive experience. It is like going to dance conventions without having to travel. These classes will be utilized during their regular class, as makeup classes, and at special times. Dancers can also access them at any time.
Competition Fee:
There will be a $100 fee for dancers chosen for a competition team(s). This fee will cover
extra classes, the online classes, and extra teacher hours.
